Dear all
I have been watching closely the functioning of different political parties in the country and was also involved in strengthening of democracy in many newly emerged countries during the last two decades. I can say proudly that our democracy is one of the strongest in the world; how many of the countries of the world. which became independent along with us can boast of such a long uninterrupted democracy. Even after the emergency, which many condemn as the black days of Indian democracy, Indira Gandhi, stepped down when she lost in the elections, respecting the will of the people.
Many have been condemning Congress Party. Yes, the party has many short comings; but which are the other parties better than Congress . Is it BJP, whose Chief Minister was fiddling when Minorities were being massacred in Gujarat and whose President was caught red handed accepting bribe. . Or is it BSP, the other major party of the north with Mayavati as the supreme leader till death. I do not think any sensible person outside UP will vote for her party. Then we have Mulayam Singh Yadav and Lallu/Rabri Devi, which one you prefer? I do not think think about the Tamil Parties as they are all myopic and do not see beyond Tamil Nadu. The left parties too do not have a better grading than congress with their leaders getting involved in corruption. To conclude with all the minus points UPA chaired by Congress Party has been elected again as the ruling party of congress by the PEOPLE OF INDIA. I have highlighted the word to stress the point that in a democracy, people are the and they select the persons whom they want to rule them.
People of India cannot forget Nehru family. This became evident when Indira Gandhi stood against all the stalwarts of Congress Party in 1969. People discarded leaders like Morarji Desai and rallied behind her. When Indira Gandhi was at the height of her popularity, Karanjia, the editor of Blitz remarked that Indira Gandhi was taller than her father in political stature and popularity as she was standing on the shoulders of her father. Similarly I feel that Rahul Gandhi is taller than many in the Congress party as he is standing on the shoulders of her grandmother, great grandmother and father. When he entered politics I discarded him as a brat from the family, but on learning his style of functioning now I respect him as a leader with a vision. I feel that people speak against him as they do not know about his functioning. How many, who speak against him, are aware that he has engaged "Foundation for Advanced Management of Elections" an NGO, under the leadership of former Chief Election Commissioners Mr. Lyngdo, Mr. Krishnamurthi and Mr. Gopalawamy to supervise and monitor the Youth Congress and NSUI elections and that FAME" has barred many leaders with criminal cases pending against from contesting elections in these two organisations. This list includes the son of a prominent leader and former chief minister of a state, who would have got a walkover as a national leader of the organisation.
I have seen some one making a statement that during 60 years Congress party has ruined the country. I do not know on what basis such a statement is made. The person, who made the statement should check the current ranking of India as an economic power, in spite of majority of the people being corrupt. I intentionally made the statement that majority of the Indians are corrupt. How many of us can say honestly that he has not cheated the Government either in income tax/customs duty or any other dues to Government. So corruption is in our blood, try to improve ourselves before accusing others.
In spite of all the corruption in the country, India is still the cheapest country in the world, as far as basic necessities are concerned; we still get Potato for less than Rs.10/kg ( I took the case of Potato as it is an item universally consumed). We can practice any religion and vote for the candidate of our choice.
Regards
T.Mathew

I dont understand why we Indians are still worshipping this nehru family - Rahul's father Rajiv is in the Swiss Bank Depositer's top list ! - Whose money - yours and mine - Do we still want more of our money being stolen by his next generation. Please do not get me wrong - I am not for or against any political parties - all are currupted to the core - why dont we support someone who is slightly more honest - Even I do not have a clue on it!!- ThomasOn Sun, Jun 19, 2011 at 2:27 PM, M. New Delhi, June 19 (IANS) As many as 46 percent of people believe that Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will make a better prime minister than incumbent Manmohan Singh, according to a national survey.According to a 'Mood of the Nation' poll conducted by the news website LensOnNews.com, nearly two-thirds (61 percent) of voters want a change of government in New Delhi.Only half that number (34 percent) still back the Manmohan Singh-led government to continue in office, it said.'Rahul Gandhi is clearly preferred over Manmohan Singh for the position of prime minister,' it said.'As many as 46 percent believe that Rahul Gandhi would make a better prime minister while only 34 percent think Manmohan Singh should continue.'The LensPoll was carried out among a representative sample of about 3,800 voters across India, in 40 Lok Sabha constituencies in 14 states. The poll was conducted between June 12 and 16. The findings carry a margin of error of four percent. The survey, however, said that between Rahul Gandhi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Narendra Modi, 53 percent opted for the chief minister of Gujarat. The survey said that disenchantment against the Congress-led central government was significantly higher in urban areas, among the college educated and upper castes.'It is ironical that these are the very same sections that rooted heavily for the Congress in 2009. Under the present regime, the Congress seems to have lost the goodwill of the informed public.'The choice of Rahul Gandhi as prime minister received a much higher rating among Muslims, women, farmers and labourers -- precisely the sections the Congress banks on heavily for votes.Gandhi, who turned 41 Sunday, was elected to the Lok Sabha from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh in 2009. A section of Congress leaders too has stepped up calls that he should become prime minister.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Click the link below and read very interesting comments made on this news
